Kyobo Life has announced that over 136 impact companies have been discovered and nurtured through its "Make an Impact on the World! UP!" (ImpactUp) support program, surpassing the milestone of 136 companies in seven years.
Impact companies are those whose products and services address social issues or support vulnerable groups, and as these companies grow and generate profits, their social value increases.
Kyobo Life plans to continue discovering and collaborating with startup organizations to address emerging social trends and create value.
On the 11th, Kyobo Life, in collaboration with the Impact Foundation, successfully held the "ImpactUp 7th Cohort Demo Day" at Honghap Valley in Gangnam, Seoul, at the end of last month.
The Demo Day is the final program of the ImpactUp support project, which has been operated by Kyobo Life and the Impact Foundation since 2018. Impact companies present their achievements and future plans at this event.
At the Demo Day, the Grand Prize was awarded to REVATION, a company providing eco-friendly product development solutions aimed at addressing environmental issues.
The Excellence Award went to "EasyTask," a company that connects clients with custom talents remotely based on AI patent-based business support platforms.
The Outstanding Awards were given to "Nanum Vitamin," a meal-sharing platform connecting food-insecure children with benevolent businesses; "Andrea," a mental healthcare startup developing AI services for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health issues; and "FreeIdea," which develops alternatives to plastic containers and refillable cosmetics to reduce carbon emissions.
The ImpactUp support project, launched by Kyobo Life in 2018, began with the goal of nurturing sound impact companies based on ICT (Information and Communication Technology) to ensure ongoing support for vulnerable groups.
The project aims to create an ecosystem where more impact companies can thrive, thereby enhancing the sustainability of their products and services in addressing social issues and supporting vulnerable populations.
The ImpactUp support project is notable for its focus on sustainability, differentiating itself from past social contribution activities that were often one-off item donations, volunteer work, or event-based activities. The project has had significant social impact, benefiting over 100,000 people and creating eco-friendly value such as carbon reduction and waste reduction.
For example, "Soyp," a design company that participated in the ImpactUp support project, is helping youth preparing for independent living. Over 30 young adults have received vocational training through Soyp’s design academy. These youths were selected based on their interest in design and have experienced practical processes such as planning, design, product manufacturing, and photography, helping them find their aptitudes. In reality, over 30 young adults participated in designing products sold by Soyp, launching 84 product lines and generating approximately 990 million KRW in sales.
To continue these success stories, Kyobo Life will keep discovering startups with creative ideas in collaboration with the Impact Foundation. Next year, they plan to select impact companies in the senior care sector to provide support through funding, expert education and networking, mentoring, product and service enhancement, and connections to investment opportunities.
A Kyobo Life spokesperson stated, "We will strive to enhance the social value creation effect through the discovery and nurturing of ICT-based startups, and we aim to contribute additional value to our society through the products and services of this year's ImpactUp 7th cohort."
