Seoul Startup ESG Forum" Successfully Concluded... Sharing Strategies and Best Practices for Startup ESG Management
Seoul Economic Promotion Agency (SBA, CEO Kim Hyun-woo), a specialized support organization for Seoul startups that creates differentiated competitiveness through systematic support, announced that it successfully concluded the "Seoul Startup ESG Forum" on December 5th, where strategies and best practices for startup ESG management were shared.
Held at GB SungAm Art Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, the forum provided a platform for discussing the necessity and practical strategies of ESG management for startups and included a session for awarding outstanding ESG management startups.
During Part 1 of the forum, presentations were given on "Talking about Startup ESG Management" (Yoon Joong-sik, Head of Daishin Economic Research Institute) and "From Startups to the ESG Era" (Julian Quantard, CEO of Wave Entertainment), followed by a panel discussion on why we need to implement ESG.
In the presentation on "Talking about Startup ESG Management," Seoul Economic Promotion Agency shared the achievements of developing the Seoul Startup ESG Guidelines in collaboration with the Daishin Economic Research Institute. Yoon Joong-sik, Head of the Daishin Economic Research Institute, emphasized that ESG management is essential for startups and that they should establish a management philosophy and operating system based on ESG principles.
Julian Quantard shared actual ESG management cases and philosophy from his experience founding the entertainment planning company 'Wave Entertainment' and the zero-waste shop 'NoNoShop,' emphasizing the importance of small actions.
During the panel discussion, experts from various fields discussed the importance of startup ESG management and execution strategies. Kwon Sung-sik, Director of the Korea Standards Association, Baek Soo-hyun, Director of Invizing Partners, and Yang Jae-mo, Manager at SK Telecom, all agreed that startup ESG is a crucial management strategy for a company's sustainability, and continuous implementation is necessary for the survival of the company.
Part 2 of the forum concluded with the awarding of three outstanding startups in Seoul for ESG management. The awarded startups were Liberation, GeoGrid, and Awesome Ray.
Seoul Startup Hub Seong-su conducted ESG pilot diagnoses for 40 startups this year through Seoul Startup ESG Management Support Project and selected three startups that best implemented ESG management through expert evaluations for the awards. Seoul Startup Hub Seong-su provided support for producing 'ESG Management Case Study Videos' for the awarded startups and arranged a time during the award ceremony to showcase the videos. The winning startups are set to receive a cash prize of 3 million won each.
Kim Jong-woo, Director of the Entrepreneurship Division at Seoul Economic Promotion Agency, stated, "ESG is no longer an optional element but a mandatory qualification that startups must have, and it should be prioritized not only for profit generation but also from the perspective of sustainability." He added, "Seoul Economic Promotion Agency will collaborate with relevant organizations and experts to provide systematic support for ESG management and work together with startups.
